Description

The trumpeter and jazz singer Alba Careta and the singer-songwriter and producer Henrio come together in the third album in the Càntut collection. Songs of oral tradition. A project that is born from stretching the thread of the Cantut initiative in schools: we hunt and sing songs and the research carried out by the students of Cassà de la Selva during the 2021-22 academic year. During this process, they collected more than a hundred lullabies from the different cultures present in the municipality.

Under the name “Udolç”, Alba Careta and Henrio undertake a dreamlike journey through several of these and other lullabies, mainly from the Girona regions and collected in the Cántuto archive. The aim is to recover the songs used in the most tender moments of upbringing and that have been passed down from generation to generation with the aim of calming children and making them sleep.

The chosen repertoire consists of twelve lullabies reinterpreted with delicate home-grown arrangements and also four poems by Enric Casasses recited by himself, set in the world of night, sleep and dreams. Both the album and the live show feature the production and guitars of Santi Careta, who provides musical and personal accompaniment to update the lesser-known melodies (which are only found in the Càntut songbook) and also tunes that most of us have heard or sung like “El Chico de la Madre” or “Son Sueño.”

Added to this alliance is the artistic direction of the Hotel Iocandi company, formed by Griselda Juncà and Tomeu Amer, who, in addition to circus professionals, stand out for their great scenic sensitivity and meticulousness when directing shows of various styles. lights.

“Udolç”, a title with nuances:

In a single word, several moments present when children are put to sleep are condensed. On the one hand, the sweetness of the bond that is created between adults and children, of the love that is transmitted, of the cradling rhythm, of the voices singing at low intensity to call each other good night... And, on the other, it also contemplates that less tender and honeyed part, in which sleep and fatigue are present in the form of howls.

“Udolç, a project to put the little ones to sleep and awaken the curiosity of the elderly”
